Refined naphthalene is an important raw material in organic chemical industry. It is widely used in the production of synthetic fiber, rubber, resin, dyes and explosives. At present, except that a few coking plants produce refined naphthalene according to needs, most plants produce industrial naphthalene containing more than 95% of refined naphthalene. Industrial naphthalene is produced during coal coking. More than 90% of naphthalene exists in tar, and a small amount of naphthalene remains in the gas cooled by primary cooler.

Part of the residual oil is separated from the outlet pipe of the hot oil pump as low naphthalene washing oil, which enters the low naphthalene washing oil tank after passing through the cooler.
